Mathias Rauscher et Michael Nittnaus
RauSchnitt Weine is the micro-project of Mathias Rauscher and Michael Nittnaus, founded in 2019 in Burgenland. The duo works four small parcels totaling just 0.6 hectares in Breitenbrunn and Purbach, on the slopes of the Leithaberg, producing around 2,200 bottles per year. Grüner Veltliner, Weißburgunder and Syrah are grown on limestone, while Blaufränkisch grows on schist. The vineyards have been farmed organically since the project began, without certification or irrigation, and all grapes are harvested by hand. Some vineyard work is also carried out with horses. Their winemaking approach focuses on very small production and minimal intervention, including spontaneous fermentations and ageing in wood depending on the cuvée.
