Nicola Gatta
Nicola Gatta is a small winemaker based in Gussago, in the eastern part of Franciacorta, where he exclusively produces traditional-method sparkling wines. His vineyards are located on the limestone hills of Gussago and Cellatica, at around 400 metres above sea level, and are planted mainly with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Gatta farms without herbicides or synthetic chemicals and draws inspiration from biodynamic principles. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous with indigenous yeasts, with no fining agents, stabilizers or added sulfites. He has chosen to remain outside the Franciacorta consortium, favouring a personal interpretation of his territory. His wines are also distinguished by lees ageing expressed in the number of « moons » rather than months.
