Julien Cartier
Domaine des Albatros is the project of Julien Cartier, based in Chignin, Savoie. From a family of winemakers, he gradually took over the family vineyards from 2019 before signing his first vintage in 2023. His background is singular: trained as an intensive-care doctor, he also took part in scientific missions in Antarctica, an experience that inspired the domaine’s name.
The vineyard brings together several emblematic Savoie grape varieties, including Jacquère, Altesse, Roussanne, Gamay and Mondeuse. Julien farms organically and biodynamically, with hand harvests and particular attention to the natural balance of soil and vine.
In the cellar, fermentations happen with indigenous yeasts and interventions remain limited. The goal is not to produce showy wines, but precise, digestible cuvées deeply tied to the terroirs of Chignin. The domaine is still young, but it rests on solid family heritage, real rigor in the work and a very clear personal vision of contemporary Savoie.
